Version 0.30.0: Nest Siege, castes, outposts and online play

Released

Version 0.30.0: Nest Siege, six castes, outposts, the Supercolony, queen breeding, a weekly boss raid, optional leaderboards and cloud saves, and the first pass of the field-journal look.

New

  • Nest Siege, a tower-defence activity from the Iron Age: place Biters, Spitters and Silkers along the trail and hold off the invaders, three sieges a day.
  • Ant evolution: six castes to evolve, each with its own ants walking the map (Ants tab → Evolution).
  • Outposts: after your first Nuptial Flight, send expeditions to the red desert, rainforest or alpine meadow and build there for bonuses at home.
  • The Supercolony: after three Nuptial Flights your line can unite, earning Unity for seven permanent bonuses.
  • Queen breeding: at each Nuptial Flight, pick one of three daughters, each with her own traits.
  • A weekly boss raid at the top of Wave Defence: three attacks a day, damage carries over the week, with rewards at 25, 50, 75 and 100%.
  • Wave Defence shows each wave's enemies lined up, and plays the battle out round by round (skip any time).
  • Five new enemy families: stink bugs, antlions, flea swarms, dragonflies and stick insects.
  • Relics, card synergies, challenge runs, and overseer rarity and training.
  • An event trail, featured cosmetics and a weekly spotlight.
  • Codex sets: 13 sets to finish for Royal Jelly. With hunger records and the new enemies, every achievement can now be earned.
  • Every story event now does something, and new story events are made up from your colony's own surroundings.
  • 21 more daily and weekly quests.
  • Day and night that follow your clock, and outdoor weather with small effects while it lasts.
  • Seasonal decorations for Halloween, Christmas, Lunar New Year and Easter.
  • A login calendar for the 7-day gifts, "Where it came from" when you come back, Codex quiz streaks, and colony photos as share cards.
  • Optional online features: weekly leaderboards, and cloud saves with Google sign-in for players 13 and over. We keep only Google's user ID, never your email.
  • A first look at the field-journal style: ruled paper pages on a leather desk, ink-stamp buttons and notebook tabs along the bottom.
  • More new art: ant walk cycles, age-up scenes, repainted backdrops, new icons and ground textures.

Changes

  • A smoother first session: a shorter intro with a Skip button, a founding rush (+150% production for your first 5 minutes), Coming next at the top of Build, an Upgrade best button, and ant jobs right on the main screen.
  • Rewards fly into the top bar, milestones get a fanfare, and numbers roll up to their new values.
  • Updates install by themselves, and Settings has a Check for updates button. Art downloads as you need it, so updates arrive much faster.
  • The cloud save card sits at the top of Settings.
  • A wide layout for tablets and desktops, with the panel beside the map.
  • A performance pass: the map does far less work each frame and draws at 30 frames a second, with a Smooth animation setting for 60.
  • New Battery saver and Vibration settings.

Accessibility

  • Settings for text size, colour-blind colours and high contrast.
  • Screen-reader labels for the map and building plaques, and clear focus outlines.

Fixes

  • Buildings no longer sit on stray ground slabs.
  • Trader deal names start with a capital letter.

Privacy

  • A privacy policy and terms of use.
  • Anonymous usage counts: the game can tell us when a device reaches a few milestones (like a new age) and which country it's in, never anything about you. You can turn this off in Settings.
  • The "Tell us" link on every Codex page opens an email to us.
