Version 0.33.0: The Boss Ladder, Story Quests and a week away

Released

Version 0.33.0: the Boss Ladder and a boss arena, pick-your-path Story Quests, up to a week of time away, the Wardrobe and bigger bundles, a tidier menu with tabs, safer cloud saves and fairer leaderboards.

New

  • The Boss Ladder: a new weekly climb in Activities. Each floor's boss is tougher than the last, every floor pays Royal Jelly, and every third floor gives a chest. It starts again at floor 1 each Monday.
  • A boss arena for the weekly boss and the Boss Ladder: watch the boss arrive, your party's cards attack in turn, the boss strike back and fall, with the damage and rewards at the end. Skip it any time.
  • Use all attacks: back after a few days? Watch any waiting ads first if you like (one per tap), then use every banked attack in one go and watch a single fight. It gives exactly the same result as attacking one by one, and Royal Jelly attacks always ask first with the total cost.
  • The main menu splits Settings into its own squares: Settings, Saves, Help and support, Privacy and About, with the ones you use most first.
  • A Discord square in the main menu to join our community server.
  • The Wardrobe, in the main menu and linked from the shop: every cosmetic in the game with a preview, what you own and wear, and every way to get the rest. Put things on and take them off there too.
  • A round Help and support button on the colony, next to the camera.
  • An Updates square: when a new version is found, a bar shows it downloading, then the game restarts into it.
  • The Android and iPhone apps tell you when a newer version is out.
  • Sign in with Apple for cloud saves in the iPhone app, beside Google. It doesn't ask for your name or email.
  • Story Quests: the twelve story chains are now little pick-your-path stories with pixel-art scenes. Each choice can lean toward the Great Ant or Satant, every quest has two or three endings, and two new quests join them: The Lantern Vigil and The Midnight Market. Finished quests come back after a while so you can try another path.

Changes

  • Boss attacks (Boss Ladder and the weekly boss) work the same way: each day brings a free attack, one more for 1 Royal Jelly, and an ad you can choose to watch for two more. Attacks you don't use are saved for up to 7 days, and playing on more days in a row adds up to +30% damage to that day's attacks.
  • No ants starve while you're away. At zero Food, births still stop and production still drops, but nobody dies offline.
  • Letting a timed story event run out is now neutral: it just clears, with no penalty.
  • A wrong answer to the daily Codex question pauses your streak instead of resetting it, and you still get the small Royal Jelly.
  • Buildings change their look the moment an upgrade reaches a new look, with no blank gap while it loads.
  • On phones, the journal page sits centred on the screen.
  • The game downloads only the language you play in, instead of all nine, so installs and updates use much less data. The map engine is smaller too.
  • Saves on your device are compressed, so they take up less space. Older saves still load.
  • Time away can now last up to a week. Every colony starts with a full day; unlock more days one at a time with Royal Jelly in the shop (from 20), or the whole week at once. Each extra day earns 85% of a first day, and storage always holds everything earned while you were away.
  • Night Shift is now Whole week (A$7.99), which unlocks all 7 days at once. If you bought Night Shift, you keep its 24 hours at full rate and get the whole week as well.
  • Ad-free now costs 140 Royal Jelly (it was 1,000). The separate A$14.99 ad-free purchase is gone, because every supporter pack already turns the ads off, with cosmetics. If you bought it, it's still yours.
  • Lineage's Long nights now adds a whole day to your time away for each rank.
  • The welcome-back screen shows how much of your time-away window you used. The Royal Jelly boost costs 20 for each day of the window used.
  • Goals look the same on every tab: main quests, daily and weekly quests (now separate tabs) and achievements each show what they pay, a progress bar with numbers and when new quests arrive, with anything ready to claim at the top.
  • The Ants, Cards, Codex and Friends screens and the Events sheet are split into tabs, and the game remembers the one you used last. Every entry in the main menu's list opens the exact tab.
  • The main menu's squares are grouped into Play, Game, Community and Help, with new squares for Achievements, Lineage, Photo album, Feature polls and Our promises.

Fixes

  • Two devices backing up the same cloud save at once can no longer overwrite each other: if the colonies differ, you choose.
  • Playing one colony on two devices no longer keeps asking "Which colony do you want?". The game now knows when it's the same colony: it asks once when another device has moved it on (with a small banner rather than a popup in the middle of play), labels which copy is newer and further ahead, and doesn't ask again once you've chosen.
  • Moving your device's clock no longer finishes research, trips or other timers early.
  • A busy hour can no longer stop everyone from sending feedback, asking for help or joining the leaderboards.
  • Cosmetics: ant colours and building skins now clearly change colour (before, most barely showed), a bundle or supporter pack no longer swaps out what you're wearing, and test purchases work in the Android and iPhone apps. Cosmetic bundles give more too: the A$4.49 sets now hold 8 items each and the Golden colony set 10, with 14 new cosmetics that are also sold on their own for Royal Jelly. Each bundle shows what's inside, what you already own and what it's worth.

Fairness & privacy

  • Ranked Siege and the daily Codex streak boards are checked on our server: it replays each Ranked Siege battle and checks each Codex answer, so scores can't be made up.
  • After the tutorial, the game asks once about two choices, both off unless you say yes: personalised ads and anonymous usage counts. Change them any time under Privacy.
  • Personalised ads can only be turned on by players 18 and over. Everyone else gets ads that use no personal data or advertising ID.
  • Anonymous usage counts are now off until you say yes (they used to be on unless you turned them off).
  • In the apps, reminders are scheduled on your phone itself, so nothing about your device is sent to us. Same quiet hours and daily limit.
  • We tidy up old online data: leaderboard players not seen for a year are hidden (and come back when they play), cloud saves untouched for three years are deleted, and closed support tickets and feedback go after 90 days.

Languages

  • German event lines use the right case for every word, and the keeper and the Colonizer are written without gendered forms.
  • French event titles drop the leading article, like the age names, and event lines read more naturally.

News site

  • The roadmap shows the whole year ahead, season by season, with a banner for each season.
  • Every news post and patch note has its own banner, and patch notes are here for every version from 0.20.
