Version 0.35.0: Reputation, a living colony and a new look

Released

Version 0.35.0: reputation with the Great Ant and Satant (a bonus for each side, milestones and laps), a colony with its own light and shadows where ants walk around buildings, Build and Research in the game's shared look, feature polls every fortnight, the wiki and news site in the field journal style, and famous ants with their own animations.

New

  • Reputation: the scale between the Great Ant and Satant now matters. Lean toward the Great Ant for a little more Food and births, or toward Satant for a little more Materials and soldiers' damage (up to +12% each at the end of a side, nothing in the middle). Neither side is the right one.
  • Reputation milestones: five on each side, each paying a small reward the first time you reach it (Royal Jelly, chests, a rare card, and new ant colours and building skins), with a scene where the Great Ant and Satant bicker about it, with a few real ant facts along the way.
  • Laps: once you've filled a side, filling it again pays that side's chest (the Great Ant's golden chest or Satant's violet one) and tips the scale back toward the middle, once a day for each side.
  • A Reputation journal (main menu, the Chapel and Story Quests) shows the scale, your bonus, the next milestone on each side, your laps and every scene so far, to read again.
  • Event board badges: finish near the top of an event camp's board and you earn the same Gold, Silver or Bronze badge as the Weekly Sprint, to wear as a title. Cosmetic only, never for sale, and only runs with nothing bought or boosted are on a board. Your badges are listed in the Event Archive.
  • Feature polls now open by themselves every two weeks, each one timed so your vote can shape an update before we build it. They're in your language too, in the game and on news.fractalax.games, and the polls page shows what's coming up next.
  • Your colony has its own light now: a soft dawn, warm dusk and cool moonlit nights, rain that greys the colours and heat that warms them. Buildings and decorations sit on the ground with soft shadows, and if you like, your Wardrobe map theme can colour the colony too (turn it on in Settings, Display).

Changes

  • Only your choices move the scale now: Satant's deals, Story Quest choices and the free daily blessing. Blessings bought with Royal Jelly or a watched ad still bless, but no longer move it.
  • Build and Research now look like the rest of the game: the same tabs for each age (they remember where you were, and long rows scroll sideways), the same cards and buttons, and plain headings instead of handwriting.
  • Tapping a building elsewhere, or Upgrade best, now opens Build on that building's age.
  • The top bar's rates, the quest card under the colony and the Food, Build, Nurse and Guard row use the same lettering as everything else.
  • Every event camp now has its own pixel-art picture at the top, from the Spring Swarm to the Winter Hibernation.
  • The news site's home page now opens with the latest update, and Latest news shows posts and patch notes together, newest first.
  • Famous ants now have their own walk, idle and special animations, and Antistotle stands like an ant.
  • The wiki and this news site now look like the game's field journal: parchment pages instead of white, the game's own fonts and pixel icons, and a dark mode to match.
  • The wiki's Codex page shows every entry as a card with its art, in tabs for species, creatures, characters and more.
  • Tidier colony: buildings, decorations and ants no longer overlap the wrong way when things stand side by side, ants walk around buildings instead of through them, level labels and bubbles make room for each other, and the Founding Chamber's night glow is a gentle warm light instead of a bright blob.

Balance

  • Saying no to one of Satant's deals now moves the scale 10 toward the Great Ant (was 5), as far as taking one moves it toward Satant, so both sides fill their laps at a similar pace.

Fairness & privacy

  • An event camp's action log is now deleted 4 weeks after the camp closes, like the Weekly Sprint's. Your score and place stay.
